Shirataki Kimono Boutique

A vast selection from one of Tokyo’s largest
and most historic kimono salon

Founded in 1853, Shirataki Kimono Boutique is one of Tokyo’s largest kimono establishments, covering nearly 10,000 square meters with a Japanese garden and tea house on site. Its extensive collection of kimono and obi, sourced from across Japan, reflects the finest dyeing and weaving traditions—earning it the nickname “The Department Store of Kimono.” From casual Komon and Tsumugi to formal Tomesode and Houmongi, every customer can find attire suited for life’s many occasions. Despite its grandeur and stately presence, the boutique is known for its accessible pricing and welcoming atmosphere. Fifth-generation owner Mr. Sataro Shirataki actively fosters kimono culture through the Shirataki Cultural Festival, launched in 2004, which presents annual events such as Noh, rakugo, and shamisen performances. The salon is also beloved in the world of shogi, where many professional players wear kimono from Shirataki, a tradition that began with the previous owner’s passion for the game.

Though the stately exterior suggests formality, the first floor offers a wide range of kimono accessories that can be enjoyed casually.

Rare and exquisite dyeing and weaving pieces are plentiful; staff will suggest items beyond expectations based on your preferences.

A dedicated floor for Furisode is available for both purchase and rental, featuring luxurious works by Living National Treasures suitable for milestone occasions.

Choosing kimono while overlooking the vast traditional garden offers a uniquely indulgent and memorable experience.

With long-standing ties to artisans and weaving houses across Japan, we take pride in our curated collection of traditional crafts.
