Ochicochiya Kyomomen

Ochicochiya Kyomomen focuses on soft, easy-care cotton kimono. The shop offers fabrics from traditional weaving regions such as Bingo Kasuri, Matsusaka Momen, and Omi Chijimi, as well as its original brand “Kyomomen Otsu.” Housed in a late-Meiji machiya townhouse, the boutique features a first floor with bolts of fabric and finished products, while the second floor includes a tearoom with an engawa veranda for kimono lessons and a space for saki-ori weaving workshops. In addition to selling kimono and accessories, the shop provides full shikkai services, including cleaning, tailoring, alterations, and dyeing. Owner Ms. Kyoko Tanaka sees kimono wisdom as the Japanese cultural tradition of fully utilizing textiles. She also promotes sustainability by recycling discarded garments into soil for cotton cultivation, leading to the creation of locally produced Kyoto cotton fabrics.
