A Kyoto boutique specializing in bespoke Kyo-Yuzen
Kyogofuku Futaya is a kimono boutique dedicated to bespoke Kyo-Yuzen. Owner Mr. Naoki Hara has pursued the essence of what makes a truly fine kimono, arriving at the ancient nori-itome resist technique of Yuzen dyeing. At Futaya, excellence lies not only in the dyeing method but in every element of craftsmanship: high-quality fabric, skilled underdrawing, exceptional brushwork, carefully determined ground color, delicate gold decoration, and sumptuous embroidery. The boutique emphasizes the artistry found in the subtle accumulation of details, considering this the true essence of kimono-making. The kimono created through this process possess a lasting beauty—garments that continue to delight the eye even after decades. With Kyoto’s finest artisans contributing to each stage, every piece achieves the highest level of quality, regardless of design or color. In 2022, Futaya introduced an innovative brand, Play KIMONO, using advanced synthetic fibers to make kimono more approachable. This forward-looking initiative reflects Futaya’s mission to preserve kimono culture while also presenting new ways to enjoy it in daily life.
