春江縮緬
Pronunciation: Harue-chirimen
Production area: Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture
Harue-chirimen is a plain-woven silk textile that began to be produced in Harue Town, Sakai City, during the Meiji period. From that time onward, silk weaving flourished in the region, evolving through continuous improvements. The fabric is characterized by its lustrous sheen and smooth texture. It was commonly used for nagajuban (long under-kimonos) and haura (kimono linings). However, with the closure of the last remaining weaving house, production of Harue-chirimen has now ceased.
